I am all about the date night flick....the border line chick flick which this is in fact, but do not be completely fooled...there is a comedy hidden somewhere in here...and when it shines..it shines bright...like a light at the end of the spiritual tunnel...get it....?
Any way Ghost Town follows tight ass Bertram Pincus played by Ricky Gervais, a gentleman who is quite popular in Britain and is gaining here in the states. He played the Michael Scott character on the BBC's original Office. Pincus lives his life day to day trying to avoid each and every person on the planet. That is until after a short stint in the hospital leaves him with the gift of communication with the dead. Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) happens to be one of those dead folks trying to enlist the help of the social hermit. Herlihy wants Pincus to try and seduce his widowed wife so that she doesn't marry a guy he deems is unfit for her. Now you can assume what happens next or see the film, but not much else can be said without spoiling the rest but this...this film is funny. For a romantic date night comedy it provides more then just chuckles...I laughed nearly as hard at a few parts as I did with the Tropic Thunder or Step Brothers. Jarvis' humor is classic and dry and works for both guys and girls. The story is a unique twist on the whole Christmas Carol situation or Its a wonderful life....just no Christmas. It is all about choices in life and how we affect one another. Like i said before, Ghost town is a cute comedy that unfortunately got lost opening weekend but was actually better then the films that came out on top in the box office. Definitely worth a see on any date night
